Showgirl Sassy

I caught up with 22 year old Aussie dancer Sassy Gallagher who is currently cruising through Sweden on her latest contract and we got to chat all things showgirl, ship life, her favourite go to show make up and staying motivated and healthy while out at sea.

What was your training and background as a young performer?

I started my dance training at Brent Street in 2007 while also studying acting and singing with Active Elite performers. TDHS and BSA from 2013-15 and graduated with a diploma of musical theatre.

What were you doing prior to this contract:

Prior to this current contract, I was performing at the Pallazo Manaheim in Germany. This was my second season and it felt even better being back the second time as it was familiar and I got to dance with all the friends I had made the year before.

What contract are you on at the moment?

Nicko Cruises, Vosco Degama which is currently sailing through Europe. We then sail onto Scotland and Ireland and will finish in the Mediterranean at the end of the year.

Where are you currently?

I am currently in Sweden.

How many shows you are performing on the ship?

On a 10 day cruise we will perform 6 different shows and 2 headliner shows. It is very show heavy. We learnt 6 shows in 4 weeks leading up to opening, spending 2-3days on each show.

What does a normal show day look like?

A normal show day is, breakfast, gym, lunch and then onto tech run at 1pm which goes for 2 hours where we pre-set. We then move into make-up and then straight into show mode.

How do you stay fit, motivated and show ready on the ship?

I am loving weight training at the moment which I am incorporating into my daily pilates practice as well as cardio to stay fit for the shows.

What are your favourite make up products and brands you use for the show?

Clinique foundations are my go-to and my Morphe pallatt. Fente lip paint is the only lip I use. I love a red lip! I use all Clinique products for make up and skin care.

What is some advice for young performers wanting to head in a similar direction to you?

Stay dedicated and put the hard work in because it will be worth it. Its hard when you’re young but put yourself out there.

Will you be back in Australia any time soon?

I am hoping to be back in December so that I can be back with my family.
